TRIANGLE, Va. - Prince William County say the two teenagers found dead in a Triangle home Monday evening had made a suicide pact.
Police identified the two Forest Park High School students as 17-year-old Desiree Patrick and 18-year-old Quirinius Williams.
Williams's stepfather, Ruben Aguilar, says he thought his stepson, known as Rain, had ended a romance a year ago with Patrick.
Heartbroken and confused, he says he can't believe the two took their lives together in a suicide pact.
"We thought the relationship had broken up," Aguilar said. "That's what caught us really off guard last night when they informed us it was Desiree."
The bodies were discovered in Patrick's bedroom by her father when he returned home Monday evening. Both Patrick and Williams suffered fatal gunshot wounds, police said.
"What we've found in the residence, and what we've learned in talking to family members and friends, is that these two teenagers agreed to end their lives together," said Prince William County police Major Ray Colgan.
Fellow students and parents say they can't comprehend why the couple would take such a drastic act.
"Just awful to do something like that when there's so many people to care for you," said Trevor White.
Williams' family says he was a loving big brother to two younger brothers and was an incredibly talented musician. He had aspirations to go to Juilliard.
Off camera, Patrick's father says he can't understand why this would happen. Neighbors say she was a polite, considerate girl.
"She was having some kind of problems, but no one seemed to have picked up on it, and now it's too late," said Charles Brown.
"Nothing ever seem out of the ordinary," added Lana Woolfrey. "They were very quiet and stayed to themselves."
The teens’ school was closed Tuesday for Election Day. Police have notified Forest Park High School, which will have grief counselors on hand Wednesday.
